Winter White

Snowspiration today!  When there's a backdrop of white, wear white!  We got a whooping 10 inches of snow last night which is unheard of around here.  Luckily my sister got me these sweet snow boots for Christmas and I have had the opportunity to wear them several times due to all this snow.  I'm a sucker for plaid and I just love the red laces.

A backwards Happy Kick today for fun in the snow with my own kiddos!

Birthday Florals

Today was my birthday!  #35 (there's a hand movement with that hash tag à la JT and Jimmy Fallon)!  I wanted to dress up a bit today but it was FREEZING!  So a cozy sweater over a dress was the best I could do.  Florals in winter always make me smile and were the perfect pop for the rest of my black attire.  Of course, I had to go with boots so my feet were warm!  My bag was a birthday gift from my brother and his sweet girlfriend ~ isn't it gorgeous!  I love the color blocking and tassel detail.

Lots of Happy Kicks were performed today!

~My birthday (did I mention that already?).
~An original version of the Birthday song performed by some special 4th graders.
~Homemade cards and special treats from my kiddos.
~Birthday cake!
~And...SNOW!!  Lots of it!  Which means no school for me tomorrow!

Boom

And BOOM goes the dynamite!  How great is this sweatshirt?  Comic book chic, right?  I love that sweatshirts are having a moment right now.  I paired mine with a pair of dressy pants, heels, and an amazing envelope clutch (thanks B!).  The pictures do not do the glossy texture and studs justice, but its gorgeous!  A leather jacket completed my comic chic look.

Happy Kicks today for witty students who called me Mrs. Boom all day.  Gotta love some wordplay!

Weekend Treats

A few goodies ended up in my cart during a Target trip this weekend.  Funny how that happens!  But, seriously, a midi sequin skirt!  How could I not?  I also snagged this white tuxedo vest (okay and one in black if I'm being honest), which is not online.  And of course some new lip color ~ a gorgeous peachy orange color which is big for spring.  It's Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Balm in Tease.  It goes on just like a lip balm, which I love because I am not really a lipstick girl!

Can't wait to style my two new pieces!  (Or three, if we're counting the other vest!)

Chill.

Snow!!  Okay, it was only 4 inches, but for eastern Virginia that's enough to cancel school for two days!!  So needless to say, I did not put on real clothes for two days ~ and I liked it!

It's still freezing today so I broke out my fair isle sweater and layered up.  I love this red one from Old Navy because it's cotton!  I have a serious aversion to anything with the slightest bit of wool in it - aka, I'm allergic and break out in a legitimate rash.  So, I'm always excited when I find a gorgeous sweater that is warm without the itch!  Some distressed denim and combat boots completed my winter look.

There were definitely some Happy Kicks this week for snow days and hot chocolate by the fire!

1983 Called...

It wants its ski-suit back!  Yup, that's me in a sweet onesie circa the 1980s.

I was away all weekend enjoying a winter wonderland in Windham, NY.  Now that I call Virginia home, my winter gear is not quite up to par.  Enter the 1980s ski-suit.  Practical?  Yes!  Fashionable?  That's debatable.  I must say I felt like a superhero and even ice skated for the first time in 15 years!

So...happy kicks for retro ski-suits that keep you warm and winter fun in Windham!  (For the record, attempting a happy kick in skates is not so much fun.)

Camouflage

I'm back in heels today!  I paired them with a pair of loose fitting camo pants because let's be honest...I love dressing up camo.  Little did I know that my outfit was quite fitting for the start of my day.  An 8am meeting at school, the topic of which was previously unknown, turned out to be a workshop called "Technology Bootcamp."  So I was appropriately dressed...not planned, but completely perfect.

Happy Kicks today for themed outfits!  Yes sir!

Casual Monday

I've got a case of the Monday blahs.  Too many things to do and not enough hours in the day to get them all done.

I knew I wanted to be quick on my feet at school today, so I ditched the heels and went with my new kicks.  The minute I saw this pair of New Balances in the J. Crew catalogue, I knew I had to have them.  But, of course, they sold out in about a second!  So I did some digging and found them on eBay.  I scooped them up immediately and have worn them almost everyday since they arrived on my doorstep.

So today's look incorporates a pair of black tuxedo pants and a striped button down with my sneaks.  Pretty simple, but I love the way I was able to pair some dressy pieces with my casual shoes.

Suede Midi

I wasn't sure how I felt about midi length skirts, but after seeing them styled in some magazines I decided to give it a try.  This skirt is a beautiful camel suede that I got ages ago!  It's been hanging in the back of my closet and I've never been able to part with it.  I gave it a fresh take by pairing it with a pair of cap-toe heeled booties and a dressy sweatshirt.  My clutch is vintage and added the perfect pop of color to my outfit.

Two Happy Kicks today:

1. We are one day away from Friday!
2. It was "dress your best" at school and I love seeing all my kiddos looking snazzy (especially the boys in their vests and ties)!  So fab!

Enjoy!

Fuzzy Sweater

We are experiencing extremely low temperatures here, which is not the norm.  There have been a lot of complaints, but I for one am relishing the cold!  I love the smell of the crisp, cold winter air.  It's so refreshing and brings back fond memories of my childhood in Connecticut.

For me, nothing is better than putting on a warm, fuzzy sweater when the winter air hits.  This gorgeous blue confection was a Christmas gift and the minute I pulled it out of the box I knew it would be perfect for a chilly day.  I chose a casual look for today, keeping my sweater the star and pairing it with some boyfriend jeans and booties.  Vintage earrings added some glam and a camel coat was the perfect outer layer along with a hand knitted hat made by my mom.  Cozy, but chic!

Sweater: Raga.  Denim: H&M.  Tee: Polo Ralph Lauren Men's.  Coat: Gap (old, but similar here).  Booties: Steve Madden (similar).  Earrings: Vintage.  Bag: DKNY (no longer available, but similar style here).  Sunglasses: Ray-Ban.  Watch: Michael Kors.

Color Pop

I am in love with the color of these pants!  The perfect choice for a dreary day!  I decided to try a mint top with the bright blue pants.  Sometimes two bold colors can really work together.  I added a blazer as an extra layer and as something neutral to balance out my bright colors.

Hope your Monday was as bright as mine!
